Telehash

Mine for the Mission

Telehash is the 256 Foundation's semi-annual fundraising event — an 8-hour livestream where the global Bitcoin mining community points their hashrate to our Hydrapool instance running in solo mining mode.

If a block is found during the stream, all block reward proceeds go directly to the foundation to fund more open-source Bitcoin mining development. On our very first Telehash, we found a block — raising the initial ~$300,000 that launched the organization.

Telehash 4

TeleHash #4 was our biggest event yet — held live at Bitcoin Park Austin on May 19, 2026. No solo block was found, but the community connected a peak of 2.49 EH/s to Hydrapool and contributed ~30.81 ZH of total work over the 6.5-hour event. The Hashdash dashboard was stress-tested live with thousands of concurrent users, hitting 32.7 req/s at peak and prompting real-time caching fixes in the first 30 minutes — a true live QA session with the best possible audience. The event featured project updates on all four core pillar projects and welcomed representatives from major mining companies who shared what they most need from an open-source mining stack. 59 unique contributors and 2,231 workers from around the world participated.

Telehash 3

TeleHash #3 was the most significant event yet — the first time all four core pillar projects ran together in a single working system. Ember One hash boards driven by Libre Board, running Mujina firmware, pointed at a self-hosted Hydrapool instance. Lead developers were up until 1am the night before getting everything stable. For the event, the team built a test bench kit using water cooling blocks from CryoByte Labs, converting the mining rig into a sous vide heater. They cooked a steak live on stream, using Mujina firmware to dynamically adjust mining power output and hold a temperature probe at exactly 101°F. The demo made it undeniably real: open-source mining hardware doing useful work in the world.

Telehash 2

The second TeleHash was a landmark moment for the foundation. Just one month into the first grant round for each core project, the team already had working prototypes in hand — an early Ember One hash board hashing live to an early Hydrapool instance, both built and running in parallel with active development. Each of the four core projects — Ember One, Mujina, Libre Board, and Hydrapool — was explained in depth during the livestream, with all grants now funded and all projects in active development. Seeing open-source hardware and pool software contribute real hashrate on stream, only weeks into their first grant cycles, was proof that the foundation's model was working.

Block Found!
3.146 BTCblock reward

The inaugural TeleHash event was a landmark moment for the 256 Foundation. Over 8 hours of livestreaming, the global mining community rallied behind the foundation, pointing their hashrate to our Hydrapool instance. Against the odds, we found a Bitcoin block — raising the initial ~$300,000 USD that seeded the four core pillar grants.
